Mr. Bartholomew Bassey Ebong is the group Managing Director and Chief Executive of Union Bank of Nigeria plc, as well as the chairman of Union Homes Savings and Loans Plc. A seasoned banker and a Chartered Accountant, Mr. Ebong began his professional career in the Union Bank stable and grew therein to the bank’s apex position.
Mr. Ebong joined Union Bank, then Barclays Bank of Nigeria limited in 1977, and worked as Assistant Chief Accountant, Branch Accountant, Deputy Chief accountant, at different times, before becoming Principal Manager (Corporate Banking Group), Assistant General Manager and later Deputy General Manager, Union Bank International Banking Department, in 1999.
Before joining Union Bank, Mr. Ebong studied at the University of Wisconsin, USA, where he majored in Accounting, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree (Cum laude) in 1975. Mr. Ebong also obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from university of Minnesota, USA, specializing in Accounting.
At different times he attended several highly professional courses in many reputable international academic institutions. Mr. Ebong holds increasingly sensitive positions in Nigeria’s banking industry, with particular reference to the Union Bank Group where he is the Chairman of all ten efficiently functioning subsidiary companies of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.
